The Gadsden Mathematics Initiative (GMI) is funded by the National Science Foundation and is a partnership program between Gadsden Independent School District and New Mexico State University and is designed to assist the district in building a stronger K-8 mathematics program. The five-year project provides on-going professional development and instructional materials for K-8 teachers and assists principals in establishing a strong mathematics program in their schools. The GMI vision is for every classroom to provide an environment that allows students to explore meaningful mathematics problems in depth and to develop their abilities to think, reason mathematically, and apply their understanding to solve problems they encounter throughout life.
